It’s already week four for my blog that taps Sir Winston Churchill’s signature phrase: ‘keep buggering on…’ to help keep our collective spirits up. So here again – in no particular order – seven little things I came across last week to brighten your day this week – one for each day of the week – to help keep you ‘buggering on’…
The quarantini
With everyone in quarantine, the advent of the ‘quarantini’ – or cocktails with friends using FaceTime, Skype or Zoom – is keeping many of us connected (and happy). To be honest, I’m likely seeing more or my friends this way than I would have done before social distancing. And God bless Ina Garten for her giant Cosmopolitan recipe in these trying times:
LATAM
Hands down the best video / commercial I’ve seen to keep everyone’s spirits up in the airline industry is from Chile’s LATAM Airlines Group, which serves to rally national support and send a positive message to both passengers and employees. Really (it’s good).
Understanding stocks
So I have to admit my RSP portfolio has been on autopilot for far too many years. While I’m lucky to have a truly great investment advisor, I’ve never been as present and plugged-in to what’s going on as I am today. Even though the markets are down, doesn’t mean it’s not a great time to educate yourself, understand what you own, what to watch and how to manage your money. What a great time to learn.
Ode to Joy
One of the most uplifting videos of people working together remotely came from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. ‘From us, for you’ says the message accompanying the video. ‘We’re adjusting to a new reality and we’ll have to find solutions in order to support each other.’ Have a listen – truly inspiring:
Politics aside
Whatever your political leanings may be, I was so impressed this week when Ontario Premier, Doug Ford took a moment during a press conference to acknowledge and thank American Sign Language interpreter, Christopher Desloges for his work and service on his last day. Nicely done.

Wine online
OK, so perhaps I’m a little slow on the uptake, but no longer do I have to risk going outside and struggling home with heavy bottles to restock my wine selection at home. Even better, wineonline.ca is Canadian.
Are you barking mad?
And finally… if you’re worried about going barking mad in these trying times, trust me, you’re nowhere close to being off your trolley. For those of you who’ve not seen it, The Tiger King on Netflix will make even the craziest of us feel normal. Enjoy:
There. Feel a little more sane…?
